2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the flood.
A famous photograph of the 1974 flood in Galt, Cambridge, Ontario, was taken by a reporter from the Hamilton Spectator. The police officer in the picture, standing at the corner of Ainslie and Dickson streets waist-deep in the floodwaters, is Const. Jack Shuttleworth.
